In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

Synopsis:

This is about a Type-A lawyer, Dannie Cohan, living in Manhattan, who plans each detail of her life and has an exact plan for her future and where she wants to be in five years, and wants to be married to her boyfriend, David.

However, one night, after accepting David’s proposal, Dannie wakes up in a different apartment with a different ring on her finger and a different man five years in the future. She spends one hour in this future and then returns to her present.

Review:

I loved this book and found it to very heartwarming and touching and especially loved the friendship between Dannie and Bella.

“I think that maybe that this is what love is. Not the absence of space but the acknowledgment of it, the thing that lives between the parts, the thing that makes it possible not to be one, but to be different, to be two.”

“We’ve been on these parallel tracks. Moving constantly forward in space but never actually touching, for fear of throwing each other off course. Like if we were aligned in the same direction, we would never have to compromise. But the thing with parallel tracks is you can be inches apart or miles.”

“You mistake love. You think it has to have a future in order to matter, but it doesn’t. It’s the only thing that does not need to become at all. It matters only so insofar as it exists. Love doesn’t require a future.”
